The Intel 13th & 14th Gen CPU Contact Frame is an installation aid that replaces the original Integrated Loading Mechanism (ILM) of the motherboard to enable better cooling performance of CPU coolers through optimised contact pressure.

Due to the altered dimensions of the Intel Alder Lake and Raptor Lake (Intel Core 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen) for the Intel LGA1700 socket compared to the Socket 1200 processors (and older generations, such as Socket LGA115X), as well as the accompanying changes to the dimensions of the socket, new mounting brackets for CPU coolers have become necessary.

Additionally, the standard ILM only has contact points in the centre of the elongated CPU. This results in uneven contact pressure of the processor in the socket, causing the surface of the Integrated Heatspreader (IHS) to curve concavely, meaning the base plate of the CPU cooler primarily rests on the edges of the IHS, leaving the thermal "hotspot" in the middle of the CPU uncovered.

Overclocking to the Limit

The Intel 13th & 14th Gen CPU Contact Frame replaces the ILM of the motherboard. Through a special internal contour, which shifts the contact pressure from the centre to the edges during installation, a concave bulging of the CPU is prevented. This increases the potential contact area with the CPU cooler, allowing the "hotspot" to be better covered.
