The Raspberry Pi Pinoir Camera Module V2.1 is a specialized camera board designed for low-light and infrared photography. It features the same 8MP Sony IMX219 sensor as the standard Camera Module V2, but without the IR filter, making it sensitive to near-infrared light. This allows the camera to capture clear images in complete darkness when used with an IR light source, ideal for night vision projects, wildlife monitoring, or security applications.

The camera supports still image capture at up to 3280x2464 pixels and video recording at 1080p30. It connects via the CSI interface on all Raspberry Pi models, including Pi Zero, Pi 3, Pi 4, and Pi 5. The compact design and flexible ribbon cable make it easy to integrate into various enclosures. The multicolor variant adds aesthetic appeal, while the technical performance remains identical to the standard Pinoir module.

The V2 camera module on the Raspberry Pi Noir board is a single channel, 8 megapixel camera module that supports CSI-2 bus interface. It has a maximum frame rate capture of 30fps. This High Definition (HD) Noir Camera Board plugs into any Raspberry Pi or compute module, allowing you to create HD videos and photos. The Pi Noir (without IR) is the same as the standard camera module, but without an IR filter and is therefore ideal for photography and videography in the dark. It uses Sony's IMX219PQ image sensor, which delivers high-speed, high-sensitivity video images. It also offers a reduction in image contamination such as fixed pattern noise and smearing. To connect the Noir camera module to the pi, a 15cm ribbon cable is plugged into the module slots directly into the Pi camera's Serial Interface (CSI) port. Once connected, we can access the camera board via the Multimedia Abstraction Layer (MMAL) or the Video APIs for Linux (V4L).
