The Ulefone Armor 28 Ultra Thermal Version is not a rugged phone with a thermal camera thrown in: it is a measuring instrument that happens to be a phone. Inside sits the ThermoVue T2 sensor at 640 × 512 pixels — the same resolution used by professional handheld thermal cameras — alongside a 4 nm MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor, 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage and a 10600 mAh battery. It is built for people who spend the day on site, on a roof, in a plant room or in front of a distribution board, and need the kit to survive and to measure properly.

ThermoVue T2 thermal camera: a real 640 × 512 pixels

Most phones with "thermal vision" use sensors of 256 × 192 or less. This one has 640 × 512 pixels at 25 Hz, a 12 μm pixel pitch and a thermal sensitivity below 40 mK — able to tell apart differences of four hundredths of a degree. The measuring range runs from −20 °C to 550 °C with ±2 °C accuracy, and AI processing (SharpenAI and FusionAI) sharpens the outline and fuses it with the visible camera image.

That is enough to find a thermal bridge in a façade, a fuse running hot in a board, a hot water leak under a floor, a bearing about to seize or a person in smoke — and to document it on the spot, without carrying a separate camera.

Power: Dimensity 9300+, 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB

The MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ is built on 4 nm and reaches 3.4 GHz. It is the same class of chip found in the major brands' flagships, so there is none of the performance penalty usually paid on rugged phones. The 16 GB of RAM extend to 32 GB through virtual memory, and the 1 TB of internal storage takes cards of up to 2 TB: ample room for hours of thermal video and photographic reports. It includes Wi-Fi 7, 5G, NFC and dual SIM.

Two screens: 6.67" AMOLED at the front, 1.04" at the back

The main one is a 6.67-inch AMOLED at FHD+ resolution (1080 × 2400) with a 120 Hz refresh rate. On the back there is a second 1.04-inch AMOLED at 60 Hz for notifications, the time or music controls without turning the phone over, and for framing selfies with the main camera.

Four cameras, a 1-inch sensor and 8K video

The main camera is 50 MP with a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor, the largest format fitted to a phone today and what makes the difference in low light. It is joined by a 50 MP ultra-wide, a 64 MP night-vision camera with four infrared lights and a 50 MP front camera. It records 8K video and carries Widevine L1 certification, so streaming platforms play in high definition.

10600 mAh battery with 120 W charging

10600 mAh is more than double what an ordinary phone carries, and here it translates into long days using the thermal camera, which draws power. It supports 120 W wired and 50 W wireless fast charging, so a short break is enough to recover a good part of the range.

IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810H

The body meets IP68 (immersion), IP69K (high-pressure, high-temperature water jets — the level required of equipment cleaned with a pressure washer) and the MIL-STD-810H military standard, covering drops, vibration, dust, humidity and thermal shock. It measures 174.2 × 83.6 × 19.4 mm and weighs 450 g: a large, heavy phone, and that is precisely why it survives.
